After my mother's diagnoses in 2002, I decided to help raise awareness about breast cancer by dedicating as much volunteer time to various Breast Cancer awareness events as possible.

My mother developed lymphedema after her mastectomy. Not many people are aware of what lymphedema is and that it can develop when lymph nodes are removed due to breast cancer. Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the interstitial tissue that causes swelling.
